As we close the books on 2008, we move past the most turbulent financial markets of our lifetime and one of the most active years the settlement industry has experienced.  Changes occurred on various fronts, including more states enacting life-settlement regulations, many changes in participating capital markets firms and funding sources, an increase in case volume, revised valuation basic (VBT) mortality tables, elongating life expectancy (LE) trends, and the resulting impacts of all of the above, which significantly reduced the average pricing of policy assets and increased investors’ internal rate of return (IRR).  These factors have now combined to create a strong buyer’s market for institutional investors.
